Image Protection & Hotlinking

If you put images on the web, you can’t do much to stop people from downloading and using them for their own purposes. You can add watermarks, but they can be cropped out unless you put them right in the middle. And at that point you’ve pretty much ruined the image. It’s just one of those things. If you don’t want people using your images, don’t put it on the web.

But then there are the folks who hotlink your image to their myspace profile without asking. I probably wouldn’t mind so much, but those myspace profiles are ug-ly.

I enabled hotlink blocking in response to those you that were hotlinking my images. You’ll probably notice it doesn’t work anymore. Sorry, you’re stealing my image and my bandwidth. Not cool.

I’ve also started putting “jayober.com” on all my images. I’m all for sharing images, totally cool, but using without asking is just wack, and using my bandwidth is hella wack. Give people some credit.

Sunday Hooping Video

On a semi-regular basis I’m asked what all this hooping business is about. While hula hooping isn’t that foreign an activity, a lot of people wonder how a person could possibly hoop more than about 2 minutes. Thing is, there’s a lot more going on than just hip shaking, or even hooping for that matter.

Anyway, inspired by Rob in Seattle, and his recommendation of Windows MovieMaker, I shot a bit of video at our regular Sunday gathering. I pieced it together over the last few nights, and here’s the result:

Hooping at Woodminster

Just a few shots of Amy and I at Woodminster which is just up the road from our place. It was a rather lovely evening.
