DJs and vinyl addicts, the secret to clean records…and my next gig…
0 Comments Published by Jay October 4th, 2006 in gigs, music, nightlife. In the process of recording my demo (which is coming, i promise) my records were sounding like total shit due to a fair amount of playa dust and were just nasty in general. and my needles were collecting all this shit and basically ruining the the stylus. i tried using the old standbys, discwasher and gruv glide, but both only seemed to make it worse. gruv glide seemed to create a nice cement in combination with playa dust. needless to say, i freaked out thinking my records were destroyed.
after a little research i learned that the best way to clean vinyl is with a carbon fiber brush. the bristles are so small they can dig right into the grooves without wearing them down. I bought the Hunt EDA and the difference was night and day. It even got playa dust out of the grooves without any fluid cleaner. Records I’ve had for years that sound dull were suddenly bright and almost good as new. Well worth the $20-$30 cost.
